Kosas DreamBeam SPF 40 Mineral Sunscreen

By Dr. Kelly Killeen, MD FACS · Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon · Published May 10, 2026

I really love this. It's a fantastic physical blocker. The color is perfect for me. It works with other products. It's not horribly expensive. I purchased two of them at the Sephora sale a few weeks ago.

Bottom of the Jar Review: Kosas DreamBeam SPF 40 Mineral Sunscreen

This is a bottom of the jar review — I used every last drop of this product before giving my honest opinion.

What Is It?

The Kosas DreamBeam SPF 40 is a mineral sunblock with non-nano zinc oxide. It comes in two sizes:

  • 40 mL for $40 (full size)
  • 15 mL travel size for $22

And two color options that aren't really tints but are designed to counteract the white cast of zinc oxide:

  • Lighter (peachy) — what I use, very close to my skin tone
  • Bronzy (gold cap) — for a more bronzed look

Note: This was originally gifted to me by Kosas, but I've repurchased it — picked up two during the recent Sephora sale.

How It Performs

This is genuinely one of my favorite physical blockers:

  • Non-nano zinc oxide for those who care about that
  • Moisturizing formula with hyaluronic acid and ceramides — physical blockers often have a weird dry texture, this doesn't
  • Plays really nicely with other products — no pilling
  • Peachy tint cancels white cast — color is perfect for my skin tone
  • Reasonably priced at $40 for 40 mL

The Packaging Critique

Here's my one real gripe: the bottle is narrow and tall with a rounded bottom that doesn't stand up easily. It was always falling on its side.

That said:

  • Squeeze bottle is easy to use
  • The cap stays clean — no product all over
  • It's cute to throw in a bag

But for counter or drawer storage, the unstable shape is annoying.

Skin Tone Considerations

The two color options probably won't work for darker skin tones — that's the persistent challenge with physical blockers. If you have deeper skin, this likely isn't going to be your best option.

Who Is This For?

Anyone with fair to medium skin tones who:

  • Prefers physical/mineral sunscreens
  • Wants a moisturizing SPF that doesn't feel dry or weird
  • Needs an SPF that plays well with skincare and makeup
  • Wants the white cast cancellation a peachy or bronzy tint provides

The Verdict

I give the Kosas DreamBeam SPF 40 a 10 out of 10. For me personally — I know it's not going to work on everybody's skin — but I really love this. It's a fantastic physical blocker, the color is perfect for me, it works with other products, and it's not horribly expensive. Already repurchased twice and will continue to use it.
