Bottom of the Jar Review: Tower 28 SOS FaceGuard SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen

This is a bottom of the jar review — I used every last bit of this product before giving my honest opinion. And spoiler: I gave it 100 out of 10.

What Is It?

The Tower 28 SOS FaceGuard SPF 30 is a physical (mineral) sunscreen with non-nano zinc oxide, designed for sensitive skin. It comes in two sizes: 50 mL for $32 and 20 mL for $18.

How It Performs

This product is incredibly gentle and tested for everything:

  • Non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic tested
  • Doesn't burn the eyes — great for sensitive eyes
  • Unique smooth texture — feels more like a moisturizer than the typical oily physical blocker
  • No pilling — works beautifully under makeup
  • National Eczema Association, Rosacea Society, and Psoriasis Foundation seals of approval

The Orange Tint Magic

Here's what makes this special: when I first got it, I was worried because it's orange and I'm very cool-toned — orange products usually look really orange on me. But the orange tint is meant to counteract the white cast of zinc oxide, and it does an incredible job.

It just blends into your skin with the least white cast I've ever had with a physical blocker. Truly impressive.

Skin Tone Considerations

For darker skin tones, you'll want to test before buying:

  • Fitzpatrick 2 (me): Works perfectly
  • Fitzpatrick 3, 4, and 5 friends: Many do well with this
  • Fitzpatrick 5–6: Some still have white cast issues

Definitely try it before purchasing the full tube if you have deeper skin.

Who Is This For?

Anyone with:

  • Sensitive, eczema, rosacea, or psoriasis-prone skin
  • A preference for physical/mineral sunscreens (no chemical filters)
  • Frustration with white cast from other zinc oxide sunscreens
  • Acne-prone skin (it's non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic)

The Verdict

I give the Tower 28 SOS FaceGuard SPF 30 a 10 out of 10 — actually, 100 out of 10. This is just a phenomenal product. I've already repurchased it, I will continue using it forever and ever, and it will always be in my SPF rotation. If you've struggled with physical blockers, this is the one to try.
