Dr. Kelly Killeen is one of two plastic surgeons featured in “Bye Bye Boobies: Breast Reductions,” an episode of Body Language by CNN. The women’s health series is hosted by CNN anchor and chief investigative correspondent Pamela Brown and premiered on CNN’s streaming service on October 8, 2026.
In the episode, Brown sits down with Dr. Killeen and fellow plastic surgeon Dr. Kelly Bolden to talk through why people choose breast reduction and what the surgery involves. Nine patients share what they wish they had been prepared for. The episode makes the point that breast reductions are often medically necessary, not just cosmetic.
CNN has published clips from the episode. In one, patients and doctors describe how hard it can be to get a breast reduction covered by insurance. “Sometimes they will require a waiting period,” Dr. Killeen says. “At times it’s harder to get a breast reduction than a gun in many states.” In another clip, the two surgeons share stories from their clinics about the sexism they have seen surrounding the procedure.
Insurance is a subject Dr. Killeen writes about often. Her
guide to getting a breast reduction covered by insurance covers the Schnur criteria, BMI requirements and pre-authorization,
how insurance coverage works for breast reduction explains deductibles and coinsurance, and her free
Schnur scale calculator estimates the tissue-removal minimum a plan may require.
Dr. Killeen has talked about breast reduction in national media before, including on
The Daily from The New York Times, on Good Morning America, and in the
Los Angeles Times. For the procedure itself, see her
breast reduction page.
